Dr. Valerie Mettle, BSc, MD, CCFP
Preventive & Lifestyle Medicine
Dr. Mettle is a Canadian and American-trained Physician with a long-standing interest in disease prevention. She graduated with an undergraduate degree in biology with distinction and went on to achieve honours in several medical subjects and an academic scholarship in medical school. Seeking further education in nutrition, she undertook a summer internship in academic nutrition while she was a medical student.
During her family medicine residency, she was appointed the resident physician wellness representative where she focused on finding ways for resident physicians to maintain physical and mental health wellness, which is traditionally overlooked during this rigorous training period for physicians. During her time as a resident physician, she was also awarded the geriatric medicine award, for her interest in helping elderly patients age well.
She comes with varied experiences including community and multicultural health, hyperbaric medicine, and being a busy solo family medical practitioner while becoming a self-taught advanced-level Spanish speaker to attend to her Spanish-speaking patients in downtown Toronto.
Her professional interests are in advancing her knowledge in preventative medicine and the related emerging fields of obesity, lifestyle medicine, culinary medicine, and anti-aging. Above all, she considers helping people live their best lives while preventing disease and promoting optimal health in her life's work.
