Frequently Asked Questions & Answers
Q – I’m considering starting Male Bioidentical Hormone Therapy. Will I need any tests before beginning?
A – Before beginning Male Bioidentical Hormone Therapy, you may be required to have a prostate examination, prostate ultrasound, PSA measurement or a 4K Score measurement, to ensure you do not have prostate cancer BEFORE initiating testosterone replacement therapy (TRT).
Q – What are some of the benefits of Testosterone Replacement Therapy?
A – Testosterone replacement therapy provides evidence-based benefits such as improved well-being, libido, erectile function, reduce visceral belly fat, increased lean body and bone mass, enhanced physical performance, reduced progression of atherosclerosis.
Q – Are Bioidentical Hormones the same as the synthetic ones I’ve heard about?
A – The “Bioidentical Hormones” used at the clinic (e.g. progesterone, estrogen, testosterone etc) are identical to the natural hormones which are created in the body until menopause for women or andropause for men. “Synthetic hormones” are NOT bioidentical (e.g. Premarin, Provera). Although bioidentical hormones do not have the same high risks as synthetic ones, testosterone can increase the growth of prostate and other hormone-sensitive cancers that pre-exist the initiation of therapy. Patients undergoing hormone replacement therapy at DeerFields, agree to undergo any pre-treatment screening required, and to regular monitoring.
