30 Jan How well are you aging?
When it comes to aging, most of us can easily spot some of the related changes. Graying hair, some fine and not-so-fine lines, muscle loss, stiffness, perhaps a few extra pounds that came out of nowhere, a loss of interest in sex… these are just some of the signs.
Some people are content to accept these changes, while others ask, “how am I really aging” and “is there anything I can do to turn back time?” It’s now possible to learn more about how well (or not) we’re aging biologically. In fact, at DeerFields, we believe optimal health begins with our Comprehensive Health Evaluation. This medical exam surpasses all other premium medical exams available in Canada and provides a complete understanding of how well you are aging. It includes:
- A comprehensive health questionnaire
- A complete history and physical examination that includes a discussion about your personal health risk
- Vision and hearing tests
- Resting and stress electrocardiogram (ECG) combined with carotid ultrasound to provide cardiovascular risk screening
- Heart Rate Variability testing to measure stress resilience
- Abdominal and pelvic ultrasounds
- A extensive blood panel to evaluate complete blood count, differential cholesterol, kidney and liver function, prostate specific antigen screening, and male, female, and thyroid panels
It also includes more specialized testing using state-of-the-art equipment. These include:
InBody 520 – The InBody 520 provides accurate and detailed information about the amount and distribution of your lean mass, fat mass, and water mass. This machine calculates your Basal Metabolic Rate, a measure of your daily energy requirements which allow for personalized nutrition recommendations.
Carotid Intima Media Thickness (CIMT) – The CIMT test measures any thickening of the carotid artery and any plaque deposits that may be present. CIMT received a higher level of recommendation in the 2010 American College of Cardiology Foundation/American Heart Association (ACCF/AHA) guidelines than many other widely used tests.
Combined VO2Max and Stress ECG Testing – VO2Max is the best single measure of aerobic fitness and a powerful predictor of long-term health-related quality of life. The test is administered by a Certified Exercise Physiologist, in conjunction with a Stress ECG to further assess cardiovascular health.
Comprehensive Health Evaluation With Biomarkers – The Comprehensive Health Evaluation with Biomarkers goes beyond disease risk screening and measures the biological age of your cardiovascular system, lungs, cognitive functioning, skin, immune system and telomeres. These measures help provide a clear picture of how well you are aging.
Clients also benefit from and appreciate same day reporting following their Comprehensive Health Evaluations and aren’t left wondering and worrying. In fact, your physician will provide a thorough review of your results and a full report with recommendations the same day as your exam.
